About CePIT


The Centre for Research of Information Technologies (CePIT) was founded in 2001.
CePIT's mission is: Development and research of Information Society.

CePIT's main objectives are:

  • Development of e-learning programs - project "Virtual Schools"
  • Empirical research of interaction between ICT and society
  • Promotion of Information society issues in the public sphere
  • Facilitation of e-publishing

E-learning

CePIT has started project “Virtual schools” in 2002. in order to facilitate development of Internet based distance learning education in Serbia - development of original e-learning methodology in Serbia based on the principles of multimedia and Internet communication. In this way educational programs of BOS became accessible to interested citizens of Serbia residing outside of Belgrade. Since 2002, CePIT conducted nine e-courses.

Research

Important field of CePIT's engagemant is research of internet usage and effects of ICT's on individuals and the society as a whole. During the year 2002, CePIT has conducted the first empirical study of internet users in Serbia (on a sample of users from Belgrade). Results of this study have been published in a book "Internet pregled: Beograd 2002" ( Internet survey: Belgrade 2002 ). In 2003 CePIT has conducted a new study which encompassed a sample of 1000 users from all 25 regions of Serbia. Results of this study have been published in a book "Globalni građani" ( "Global Citizens" ). In January 2005 a third CePIT's book from this series has came out from the press. It is entitled "Perspektive umrežavanja" ( "Perspectives of Networking" ) and it brings the results of the study of internet users from 8 capital cities in the region of South East Europe, carried out by CePIT in 2004.

I-society Promotion

Organisation of seminars, panel discussions and conferences for BOS students and for wider public, in order to develop critical thinking regarding the IT and their influence on the modern society.

Center for Research of Information Technology (CePIT) is a part of the Belgrade Open School (BOS) . CePIT is primarly focused on research projects in Social Informatics, e-learning developmet and various public activities, in order to enhance the development of Information Society in Serbia and SEE region .
